So I ran into a new friend at my workplace. I was slingin' espresso and she was talking excitedly about this new venture she and her husband have started. They created a website/blog where a few of their friends and other writers could enter their writings.

The topics? Creative, newsy, silly, deep, intellectual, whatever they want to write. I was intrigued. While there is a slightly strange detail involved: You have to allow Google to put up some AdSense (small boxes with ads for companies or orgs that have to do with what you wrote), I still think it is an excellent idea. I mean, writing is good. I don't take the time to write as much as I'd like. And I like to think I know a little about a few things...(don't we all like to think that?)
and it's just fun to write something I am pretty sure someone will read at some point.

On this site called Scroggles, there are people writing about Philosophy, Higher Mathematics, Bible stuff, Faith stuff, Friendship, The Millenial Generation, Green Matters, Politics, Relationships, Family, etc... and the list goes on. Some articles remind me of Relevant Magazine (you should check it out if you haven't)... that speak to stuff that we as twenty and thirty-somethings are dealing with, so that's cool.

Anyway, another up-side of this little venture is that it is NO cost to me, I only need to write twice a week about whatever I want. Finally, I could potentially earn profits that come from Google for allowing them to put up their little fairly un-obnoxious ads. Just another way for me to somehow defray the insane costs of higher education...Slingin' espresso doesn't exactly bring in the big bucks. So, does this mean I am taking advantage of today's consumerism? Am I contributing to the craziness of the advertising epidemic? I hope not. I'd like to go with the former rather than the latter.
